I would have to disagree, the real turning point is when his teacher fell into deep sleep during the three year agreement events. That’s when Xiao Yan truly bloomed, since then he has not been heavily relying on his teacher.

Literally all the top anime u could list as ur fave had almost worse incidence than this. It's just that BTTH didn't try to decieve us or cut corners, they weren't hypocrytical about it. For eg Naruto had gene pool from uzumaki as if that wasn't wnough he still had the greatest of all the tailed beats, yet they had the guts to decieve us in naruto that he was all hardwork. Xiao yan's case is even better. He was a genius himself before yao loa ran him down. He's jusr paying him back by bringing him back up.

yup this donghua is really great at logically building up characters relationships, development and reason behind there respective motivations its easily one of the best over all animes i have seen period. Even the power lvls are easily understandable and presented as a steady progression so far.

Wrong. The writing is pretty garbage, like MOST chinese donghuas. The animation is the only thing that can be called TOP NOTCH. The cultivation being "understandable" is not a plus. It's literally a cultivation donghua, if we could not understand that then I wouldn't know what to say then.

Also, the power levels mean absolutely SHIT when it comes to the MC and progression. a Dou Wang fighting a Dou Zong? Did you watch this anime? Medusa brushing off the hands of a Dou Zun level fighter as a Dou Zong? It makes absolutely NO SENSE. This guy should be dead several times over.

Both Lin Dong and Mu Chen literally trains and reaches the appropriate level before they can really fight people who are OBVIOUSLY WAY STONGER than them, who can kill them in ONE move. Not to mention none of them be getting saved NON STOP by their teachers.

Da Zhu Zai just started but it will UNDOUBTEDLY be way better than BTTH. Martial Universe is also infinitely better, both in writing and progression.

Ring a bell??? MC is using that very same practice and now has 3 heavenly flames in his possesion.
But unlike other mc's who have godlevel inheritance/technique that were overpowering from the start mc here got his ass kicked many times and got his ass saved many times over and over again cause eventhough he have that godlevel flame mantra,
he still need to practice it and face life and death getting those heavenly flames.
although he has heaven level fight technique like that palm strike from his gf and tsunami strike from his master plus
godlevel flame mantra (collecting and combining heavenly flames ) i.e. angry lotus buddha he still just have 50/50 chance against a dou zhong whose 2 level above him and still got badly injured.its more of a dramatic fight plot rather than a total power creep like other mc's out there who have god level inheritance/technique whos just toying and one shotting their enemies which is several levels higher and even unscatched after the battle.
And during the fight against that dou zong it was mentioned over and over that he can get killed quickly , thats why he uses that speed up technique and hes a peak dou wang (9 star) , upon using that power technique that boost his level by several star levels, during the fight his at dou huang level.
so its dou huang vs dou zong.

I can't completely type all on my mind but here's my attempt.
If for example u watched the ep where Gu he was to fight xiao yan, xiao yan said it that Gu he was actually at peak dou wang but because he had the purple flame, gu he's strength is comparable to a regular 4 or 5 star dou Huang. It's also the purple flame that contributed to Gu he attaining his level 6 alchemy status
At first we only thought that heaven flames could only increase the rate of cultivation. But with that it was obvious that heavenly flames also(in addition to increasing rate of cultivation) increase the base strength of the practitioner. Now xiao yan has same purple core flame, in addition to two other heavenly flames while being at peak dou wang.. It's only natural that his base strength should at the very least be close to a regular/run of the mill peak dou huang.. at most, a one star dou zong, in addition to this xiao yan had rare fight techniques that helps him stand a chance against a dou zong, for eg he had the thousand lightening and also that Buddha fused flame technique to deal damage to a douzong. Despite all of this, if u paid close attention to xiao yan's fight with yun shan. You'll notice that after xiao yan's initial exchange that landed, yun shan went full throttle and xiao yan was constantly on the defense, he was going to lose if not that yao lao landed an attack on yun Shan from behind, lead to him coughing up blood. That attack significantly weakened him.
If u pay attention you'd see that yun shan was unable to operate on same level he used prior.. That had xiao yan on defnese. If u ask me it's a significantly fair fight.
Compare that to many of the unfair MC fights in most other anime u"ll see that xiao yan actually stood a chance. So it's fair

When did a dou zun appear? So far only dou zong have appeared not dou zun. Only reason Xiao Yan could beat the other guy is because he literally had three heavenly flames, those things are not just for show and that idiot was cocky and underestimated him if he did not let his ego cloud his judgement he wouldn’t get himself kïlled. Also what is wrong having someone protect you? Literally all the young masters here if they can’t beat one individual they will suddenly pop up with their father, grandfather and all their ancestors. It’s not like Xiao Yan lacks combat experience either, it’s not just about cultivation, combat experience is also a factor in cultivation donghua’s.

cultivation level alone mean shit (most of time) ,stronger guy's always have unique fighting battle to use that to defeat enemy that why writer always give xiao yen good fighting skill through the plot armor
Han Feng lost and died in battle so easy because he haven't got any shit to use his do zong power against xiao yen he just got sea fire and just it ! he just bash his power like child and xiao yen BBQ him
Yun Shan was hard to kill because he was sect leader and he got a lot of resources and fighting experience and skills not only because he is do zong
